Light rain drizzles, and there are few pedestrians on the street, only a handful of umbrellas moving slowly. The news of Ethereum's plummet is displayed on my phone screen, and my account balance is down to three digits. The desolation outside intertwines with my disappointment.
I am unwilling to accept it; why have I failed so miserably? From a small-town exam-taker to being admitted to Wuhan University, and then to a graduate program at the University of Hong Kong, I have put in effort every step of the way. Yet now, I have lost everything.
Last year, I quit my job, bringing with me 200,000 yuan saved over a year and a half, and plunged into the cryptocurrency field. At first, everything seemed wonderful. Watching the market, researching projects, analyzing trends felt freer than working a job, after all, I was working for myself. At that time, I made some money and met a group of friends, and we shared opportunities together.
From the beginning of the year to the end, I was in good shape, accumulating over a million yuan in profits, but I didn’t withdraw any. By December, I struggled to keep up with the fierce competition in the market and predicted a boom in altcoins, so I decided to buy the dip on BOME. I fantasized about replicating last year's PEPE miracle, buying from 0.008 down to 0.003, but the crash this morning caused me to be liquidated. In fact, the leverage I used was not high, less than 3 times.
I bet my entire fortune, yet it all vanished.
The most ironic part is that after returning home, I urged my parents to buy the dip, having them start purchasing $BOME from 0.004 and averaging down to 0.003, which has now nearly halved. It’s bad enough that I lost money, but I also dragged my parents down with me; I truly feel guilty, sigh.
This Spring Festival has been like sitting on pins and needles, with my trading account showing losses every day. When faced with relatives and friends asking about work, I have no confidence. Despite working hard every day, I neither made money nor lived well, and I faced ridicule from relatives saying, "After studying so much, you still don’t have a stable job."
I am really curious, who can still make money on exchanges? Coins that have dropped five times can drop another four times; they drop 4-5 times as soon as they go online? In such circumstances, can anyone really profit?
At this moment, my feelings are complex, filled with unwillingness yet also confusion and helplessness. Clearly, I have tried my best, yet the results always go against my wishes. Those goals that once excited me now feel like paper soaked in rain, blurred and unclear. I don’t know where to go from here, nor do I know if I can pick myself up again.
